If your Kepco product is not functioning properly, the problem may be related to improper installation or operation rather than product failure. Please verify your setup against the Installation and Operation sections of the manual which accompanies the product before contacting Kepco.

If you do not have access to the original manual which accompanied the product, you may contact Kepco Sales or your local Kepco representative for a duplicate copy. Operator's Manuals for most products are available in PDF format for FREE download on-line. Service Manuals which include a parts list and schematic diagrams may be ordered on-line

The following checklist identifies the most common errors in installation and operation which prevent normal product operation, and serves as a starting point for your investigations:

  • DO NOT open the unit and make any internal adjustments. Internal controls are factory preset as part of the calibration process, and should only be readjusted as part of a structured recalibration process as defined by the product's Instruction or Service manual. Arbitrarily resetting and readjusting these controls will result in the product's inability to perform properly even after the actual cause of the failure has been located and corrected.

  • Verify that input power is connected and available. Verify that input power corresponds to the input power rating of your power supply. If your unit has selectable input power ranges, verify that the unit is set to the proper range.

  • If your unit has error sensing terminals (+S, -S), these MUST be connected for the unit to work properly. All connections MUST be tight!

    NOTE: Terminal designations may vary from model to model.

    • LOCAL SENSE. In cases where accuracy of the output voltage/current is not critical (e.g., powering an incandescent lamp) or when the load is close to the power supply, LOCAL sensing should be connected using the shorting links supplied with your unit. The shorting links connect the (+) output terminal to +S and the (-) output terminal to -S.

    • REMOTE SENSE. If the connections to the load are long enough to affect the voltage applied to the load and accuracy is important, REMOTE error sensing can be used to compensate for this effect. In this case, first remove the shorting links for local sensing. Using separate wires for each, connect the +S terminal and the (+) output terminal of the power supply to the + input of the load and connect the -S terminal and the (-) output terminal of the power supply to the (-) input of the load. There will now be 4 wires connected to the load.

      1. +S to + input of load
      2. (+) to + input of load
      3. -S to - input of load
      4. (-) to - input of load

  • If the unit has an operator accessible fuse, check to see if the fuse is blown. If so first verify that the proper input voltage is being applied to the unit, then replace the fuse with a replacement part indicated in the technical manual. If the fuse blows again, contact Kepco for assistance.

  • Verify that the load is connected correctly and that all connections are tight.

  • Verify that the value of the load will not cause the unit to exceed its specifications.

  • For units that are operating as a voltage source, verify that current limit setting is correct. If your unit has the ability to establish current limit, this value must be set higher (typically 10% higher) than the expected maximum load current. Otherwise the limit will either prevent the proper current from being delivered to the load, or on some units, when the current tries to exceed the limit the unit will shut down.

  • For units that are operating as a current source, verify that voltage limit setting is correct. If your unit has the ability to establish voltage limit, this value must be set higher (typically 10% higher) than the expected maximum load voltage. Otherwise the limit will either prevent the proper voltage from being delivered to the load, or on some units, when the voltage tries to exceed the limit the unit will shut down.

  • Verify that overvoltage setting is correct. If your unit has the ability to establish overvoltage limits, this value must be set higher (typically 10% higher) than the maximum voltage to be applied to the load. Otherwise, the limit will either prevent the proper voltage from being applied to the load, or on some units, when the voltage tries to exceed the limit, the unit will shut down.

  • For ATE and BOP power supplies, check that the correct progamming connector is properly installed.

  • Some products have interlock switches which disable the unit when a protective cover is removed. Be sure all protective covers are in place and properly secured.
