Owing to the
differences in function, Nikon View 5 can not coexist on the same computer with
Nikon View earlier versions: Nikon View version 3, Nikon View DX, and Nikon View
4.
Before deciding
whether to upgrade to Nikon View 5, be sure you understand the differences
between Nikon View 5 and earlier versions.
Like
Nikon View 4, Nikon View 5 can be used to transfer pictures to a computer. In
addition, it can be used to view or print pictures that have been saved to the
computer hard disk after transfer and display them in automated slideshows.
Although
Nikon View 5 can not be used to browse pictures on the memory card before
transfer, you can select pictures for transfer beforehand using the camera’s protect or transfer settings options. Nikon View 5 can not be used to resize
pictures during transfer.
Nikon
View 5: Principal Features
• Image transfer can be initiated with the camera transfer button,
if available.
• Pictures can be selected
for transfer using camera protect or transfer settings options
• Pictures can be renamed
and IPTC information added during transfer
• Once transferred, pictures can be viewed as a list of thumbnail images,
viewed at different zoom ratios, displayed in automated slideshows (when
displaying slideshows, QuickTime Player Ver. 5.0.2, available separately, is
required), and printed in a variety of different layouts
• The following commands can be used to navigate through folders when
thumbnail images are displayed: Folder tree, Back, Forward, Up
one level, Favorites, etc.
• Thumbnails can be displayed in a variety of sizes
Windows XP users should also be aware of additional information
posted on the View v5.1.1 download page.

Notice
For Nikon View 5 to
function properly all older versions of Nikon View (Nikon View 900, Ver. 2.x,
DX, Ver. 3.x, Nikon View 4) and Nikon Capture Ver. 1.x
must first be uninstalled.
To take advantage of all of the functions available in Nikon View
5, QuickTime Ver. 5.0.2 or later is required.
QuickTime can be downloaded from the Apple Computer homepage.
To users of Nikon Capture 2
Images captured in RAW format,
and images saved in NEF format with Nikon Capture 2, and rotated in Nikon View
5 Ver. 5.1.1 can not later be opened in Nikon Capture 2. We are currently preparing an upgrade to
Nikon Capture 2 to correct this problem.
With the next upgrade, NEF format images which could not be opened in
Nikon Capture 2, will open correctly.
