Thank you for purchasing a Nikon D1 digital camera. We are sure that it will give you many hours of reliable and productive use. Please note that the advanced operating information for your D1 digital camera is located on the Nikon Reference CD,in the directory named PDF. The camera manuals are viewed by using the Adobe Acrobat reader, which is included on the Nikon View DX Reference CD. If you cannot open the manual files, please install the Adobe Acrobat reader to your hard disk. You may print the entire manual,or just the pages you are interested in at any time. If you have difficulty printing the manual, reduce the number of pages you are printing at one time.Restarting your printer may free up additional printer memory to process the manual pages. We suggest copying the Manual PDF files to a directory on your local hard disk so they are always available to you. Please read the following important information, which was not included in the Nikon D1 digital camera manual. For viewing images taken with the Nikon D1 digital camera, you have two choices: 1) You can remove the Compact Flash (CF) card from the camera and use a CF card reader or AT Card reader with a CF to AT adapter to read the card directly on your computer. 2) You can connect the camera to your computer using the IEEE1394 high speed interface and an appropriate cable. Either way, the Nikon View DX software will mount the Compact Flash Card on your computer, and allow you to browse the thumbnail images and to open the full size images. 1. What's new on the version 1.1 1.1. Wider support for IEEE1394 controllers In addition to the Adaptec IEEE1394 controllers model 8920 and 8945, you can now use OHCI compatible IEEE1394 PCI-controllers and PC-card interface controllers. OHCI controllers that have been tested and operate correctly are: Orange Micro OranageLink Firewire Orange Micro OrangeLink Firewire + USB Ratoc System PC-Card Sony Viao on board 1394 interface If you are going to use controllers other then the Adaptec 8920 and 8945, they may not work correctly unless Windows 98 Second Edition is installed. Please check with the card vendor before purchase to assure compatibility with your PC and operating system. In some other cases there may be a conflict between the Adaptec IEEE 1394 controller and the USB interface system on your PC. Adaptec indicates that installing the Windows 98 Second Edition may resolve the problem in some cases, but in other cases it may not. Please check with Adaptec for updates if you own a 8920 or 8945 IEEE 1394 Controller Card. You may need to disable the USB interface in your PC to use the Adaptec 8920 or 8945 cards even if you use Windows 98 Second Edition for your OS. 2. Tips 2.1. Supported camera Nikon View DX was designed and developed for Nikon D1 digital camera exclusively. No other cameras are currently supported by the Nikon View DX software. 2.2. IEEE1394 interface Your computer needs to be equipped with at least one IEEE1394 interface controller to connect the camera to your computer with an appropriate cable. 2.3. Notes for Adaptec AHA-8945 and AHA-8920 interface boards. For proper operation with the Nikon D1 digital camera, the Adaptec HotConnect Ultra/HotConnect software ver.2.0 (or later) must be installed. The latest versions of Adaptec drivers are available at . 2.4. Browse with Nikon View The amount time it to display thumbnail images in Nikon View DX window is directly related to the amount of data on your camera memory card. The more images on the memory card, the longer the mounting operation will take. 2.5. No Twain Support-No Photoshop Plugin support Please take note that Nikon View DX is not a "TWAIN source" or a "Photoshop Plugin" and is not available under the TWAIN interface selector of any software application, or through the Adobe Photoshop Import/Acquire menu. The Photoshop Plugin that is installed by Nikon View DX is used to allow Adobe Photoshop users to open files in the YCbCr format used by the D1 via the "Open" menu, it is not an import/acquire plugin. 2.6. Drag and Drop used to move images to your applications and disks. Nikon View DX uses "drag and drop" to move files from the Nikon View DX to your system hard disk or third party application. Move files from your Nikon View DX window to any application that supports drag and drop using the same method you would use to move files from one directory to another on your hard disk. You may also copy images from the Nikon View DX and then paste them into an open document in your imaging application. 2.7 In the event of another application failing to operate after the installation of Nikon View, you will find the previously installed DLL's now have the following names: Before Nikon View DX After Nikon View DX Ltfil10n.dll Ltfil10n.xxx Ltkrn10n.dll Ltkrn10n.xxx Lfbmp10n.dll Lfbmp10n.xxx LFCMP10n.dll LFCMP10n.xxx Lffax10n.dll Lffax10n.xxx Lftif10n.dll Lftif10n.xxx LTDIS10N.dll LTDIS10N.xxx If any of the files listed above which are used in Nikon View DX, have already been installed by another application, Nikon View DX may not work as expected. In this case, Nikon View DX will change the name of the existing files and install the correct versions to run Nikon View DX (The list in section 3 of this file will show you the list of DLLs used by Nikon View DX and the names of any of the existing DLL's which were renamed during the installation of Nikon View DX) If you are contacting technical support regarding an incompatible application, please have the name and version of the application, the vendors telephone number and any error messages presented before contacting Nikon's technical support staff. Nikon's support staff and software engineers will work with third party application vendors in the case of a serious problem to determine an acceptable resolution to all parties. 2.8. Temporary files When you transfer image(s) from Nikon View DX to any 3rd party application, Nikon View DX creates temporary files and issues a command to the application that open those files. Since those files would be opened and used by the 3rd party application, Nikon View does not delete those files. Please erase those files after you save your image(s) to preferred location using the 3rd party application. Those temporary files will be located at: /Windows/Temp/Camexp/Transfer (In case of Windows 95 or 98) /Temp/Camexp/Transfer (In the case of Windows NT4.0) /Documents and Settings/[User name]/LocalSettings/Temp/Camexp/Transfer(In the case of Windows 2000) 2.9. When you disconnect the IEEE 1394 cable or eject the CF card from the camera. Before you disconnect the interface cable from the camera or eject the CF card from the camera, please unmount the camera and turn the camera power off . 3. Known problems 3.1.
