Question 1 How can I descale/clean the kettle?
Answer 1 Fill the kettle with water up to three-quarters of the maximum level and bring the water to the boil. After the kettle has switched off, add white vinegar (8% acetic acid) to the maximum level. Leave the solution in the kettle overnight. Empty the kettle and rinse thoroughly. Fill the kettle with clean water and boil the water. Empty the kettle and rinse it with clean water again. Repeat the procedure if there is still some scale in the kettle. You may also use an appropriate descaler. We advise you to descale the kettle every 6 months.

Question 2 How can I clean the scale filter?
Answer 2 Remove the filter and clean it under a running tap by gently brushing it with a soft nylon brush. You can also clean the filter by simply leaving it in the kettle while descaling. Some kettles have a mesh which attracts scale from the water. This mesh can be cleaned by squeezing and turning it under a running tap. The scale filter is also dishwasher proof.

Question 2 ( HD4672 HD4673 )
The kettle stays in the "on" position. What is wrong?
Answer 2 Check if there is water in the kettle. If there is, contact your Philips dealer. If there is no water in the kettle, the boil-dry protection of the kettle has been activated. Switch the kettle off. Lift the kettle off its base after ten minutes to reset the boil-dry protection. Then you can use the kettle again.

Question 3 ( HD4637 )

Question 4 The kettle produces an unexpected amount of noise, which increases as the water reaches boiling point. What is wrong?
Answer 4 This is a normal phenomenon, which is caused by the high speed at which the water is heated up.

Question 5 Small spots appear on the heating element (these spots may have various colours). What is wrong?
Answer 5 These spots are the result of scale build-up. These spots may already appear after you have used the kettle only once. The harder the water, the faster scale will build up. Although scale is perfectly harmless, it can affect the performance of the kettle if it is allowed to build up over a longer period of time. Descale the inside of the kettle with a descaling agent or white vinegar (8% acetic acid). Clean the outside of the kettle with a damp cloth. We advise you to descale the kettle every six months.

Question 6 There is rust on the heating element of the kettle.
Answer 6 This is not rust but scale. Scale can occur in a variety of colours that sometimes make it look like rust. Descale the inside of the kettle with a descaling agent or white vinegar (8% acetic acid). Clean the outside of the kettle with a damp cloth. We advise you to descale the kettle every six months.

Question 7 The water takes a very long time to boil (much longer than when I started using the kettle).
Answer 7 The heating element of the kettle is probably covered with scale. This scale is the cause of the longer boiling time and can damage the kettle if it is allowed to build up too long. Descale the inside of the kettle with a descaling agent or white vinegar (8% acetic acid). Clean the outside of the kettle with a damp cloth. We advise you to descale the kettle every six months.

Answer 8 The occurrence of small amounts of condensation on the base of the kettle is perfectly normal and is by no means a manufacturing defect.
