3.3. File Sizes

The files require approximately the following disk space:
compiled library: 12.2 Mb
module information files: 6.3 Mb
example program material: 4.3 Mb
library documentation files: 0.1 Mb
scripts: 0.1 Mb
PDF documentation files: 20.2 Mb
licensing materials: 20.7 Mb

4. Installation

4.1. Library Installation

To install all library material use the Unix tar utility, e.g.

tar xvf /cdrom/fn04.tar
(assuming the CD-ROM has been mounted as /cdrom).

The object library (libnagfl90.a) should be moved to a directory, such as /usr/lib, in the default search path of the linker, if possible, so that linkage is convenient. Alternatively, a symbolic link could be made to it, e.g.

ln -s /fnsol04dg/libnagfl90.a /usr/lib/libnagfl90.a

The module information files (nag_mod_dir/*.mod) are supplied in pre-compiled module form. They should be moved to a suitable location so that access is convenient, e.g.

mkdir /usr/local/lib/fl90_modules
mv nag_mod_dir/* /usr/local/lib/fl90_modules
or, a symbolic link could be made to them, e.g.
ln -s /fnsol04dg/nag_mod_dir /usr/local/lib/fl90_modules

The -I"pathname" option should then be specified on each f95 invocation (where "pathname" is /usr/local/lib/fl90_modules) to tell the compiler where to find the modules.

Alternatively, the files may be moved to the same directory as the pre-defined modules supplied with the compiler.

The script nagexample refers to the local directory containing the example programs. The file should be copied to (for example) /usr/local/bin, modified to reflect the local installation, and its protection set to world execute.

The man page, which directs users to the HTML form of the Users' Note, should be moved to a directory in the man search path, e.g.

cd doc
mv nag_fn_un.3 /usr/man/man3

4.2. License Management

The use of the NAG fl90 is controlled by the FLEXlm network license management system (FLEXlm is a registered trademark of Globetrotter Software Inc). This release of the NAG fl90 Library uses version 7.2g of FLEXlm. The remainder of this section describes how obtain and install a FLEXlm license key to enable the use of the Library. (Further details about FLEXlm and how it may be configured to suit your local circumstances are included in the FLEXlm End User Manual and FAQ supplied in the directory fnsol04dg/license.)

First, you need to determine the hostid of the system. This may be achieved by running the FLEXlm utility program 'lmutil' provided in fnsol04dg/license/bin/sun4_u5, using the argument 'lmhostid'. For example, if you are in the directory fnsol04dg you can use:

   ./license/bin/sun4_u5/lmutil lmhostid

Next, contact a NAG Response Centre and request a license key. Customers in North America should contact NAG Inc, all others should contact NAG Ltd; in both cases you will need to quote your NAG site reference, NAG product code (FNSOL04DG) and the hostid you have just determined.

For the fl90, NAG will provide you with an 'uncounted license key' for use on a specific machine. This will consist of a FEATURE or INCREMENT line for the licensed product, for example:

FEATURE NAG_FN NAG 4.000 30-nov-2002 0 CBDA2041DC1BC45D2B68 "DAUB," 80896b27
(which would enable an unlimited number of instances of version 4 of the application NAG_FN, until the date specified, on the system with hostid 80896b27 only). Note that the line may be continued by escaping the newline character with '\'.

Once you have obtained the license key, store the text of it in a file, say /usr/local/lib/nag/license.dat - if you already have any FLEXlm licenced products on your system, you will need to add the new license key as an extra line in your existing file of FLEXlm license keys; you can determine the location of this with

echo $LM_LICENSE_FILE

If the environment variable LM_LICENSE_FILE is not already set, you must set it to the full pathname of the file of FLEXlm license keys; this variable will be accessed by the NAG application to confirm that a valid license exists.

For example, in the C-shell, LM_LICENSE_FILE may be set by typing:

setenv LM_LICENSE_FILE /usr/local/lib/nag/license.dat
or, in the Bourne shell, by:
LM_LICENSE_FILE=/usr/local/lib/nag/license.dat
export LM_LICENSE_FILE

No other actions are required to install an uncounted license.

4.3. PDF Documentation Installation

To install all PDF documentation material, use the Unix tar utility, e.g.
tar xvf /cdrom/pdf.tar
(assuming the CD-ROM has been mounted as /cdrom).

You may wish to move the PDF documentation files to the same location as that for other NAG products. You are encouraged to make them readily available to users, but in such a way that they are not generally accessible from outside your site.

4.4. Checking Accessibility

The installer should ensure that the advice given to users in Section 3.1 of the Users' Note (doc/un.html) is suitable for the installation. This can be done by running a few example programs following that advice. The installation can also be tested using the script nagexample.

4.5. Release to Users

The Users' Note (doc/un.html) should be checked and amended as necessary (particularly Section 3.1). It can then be made available to users directly, or be absorbed into local access information.

The following material should also be made accessible to users:

compiled library:

libnagfl90.a
module information files:
nag_mod_dir/*.mod
example program material:
examples/source/*.f90
examples/data/*.dat
examples/results/*.r
scripts/nagexample
pdf documentation files

Note that the example material has been adapted, if necessary, from that printed in the NAG fl90 Manual, so that programs are suitable for execution with this implementation with no further changes. Making the example material directly available to users provides them with easily adaptable templates for their own problems.

4.6. Maintenance Level

The maintenance level of the library can be determined by writing a simple program to call procedure nag_lib_ident, which prints out details of the implementation, including title and product code, compiler and precision used, release and maintenance level.

5. Documentation

Each supported NAG fl90 site is currently provided with a printed copy of the NAG fl90 Manual (or Update). Additional copies are available for purchase; please refer to the NAG documentation order form (available on the NAG websites, see Section 6 (c)) for details of current prices.

On-line documentation is provided, in PDF form, with this implementation. Further information is contained in the Readme file on the distribution medium.
