Intel Architecture Labs
About IAL
About IALAbout IAL

In 1991, the Intel Architecture Labs (IAL) were created with the primary objective of growing the market for all PC products. Since its inception, IAL has developed a number of technologies and standards that have moved the industry forward to more exciting and compelling PC uses and applications. These include innovations in platform architecture, media data types, communications, and network architecture and applications. Through our advanced research and development we have focused on creating open, interoperable interfaces around which the entire industry can innovate.

IAL is making whole-house computing a reality. We're exploring new applications for the home and family, such as speech recognition and synthesis, to simplify your life. This means pushing the performance edge of hardware and software by propelling easy-to-use technology into the future.

Industry Standards Bodies

IAL is committed to industry standards bodies that are defining the future of computing. These standards bodies have paved the way for a number of computing advances in PC architecture, communications, and applications.

One such standards body includes the Digital Imaging Group (DIG). IAL is an active member of this broad-based, non-profit consortium composed of leaders in the photography and computing industries. The DIG is working to build the future of imaging by spearheading a world-class, standards-based component platform built upon two of today's existing technologies -- FlashPix* imaging architecture and Internet Imaging Protocol. For more information about the Digital Imaging Group, go to http://www.digitalimaging.org.

University Research

IAL is engaged with leading universities across the country conducting advanced research with a longer term focus, typically five to ten years out. IAL engineers work with prominent researchers focusing on areas such as multimedia communication, enterprise networking, and computer/human interface.
